The effects of technology on your health

There are a lot of good things that technology has done for our health.

Big-picture wise, technology has allowed for more advanced testing and imagery that help with medical diagnoses.

At the personal level, technology can help us manage our health through fitness apps and wearable technology, or even just through access to information, like YouTube.

But, as we now live in a digal era where everything is connected, not all technological advances have been great for our health.

In our homes, the emitting of wifi signals via EMF can impact a lot of different organs in our bodies. It can lead to increased insomnia, depression, migraines, and fatigue.

In terms of our thyroid health, there have been recent studies out of Yale that have shown a connection between cell phone usage and an increased risk of thyroid dysfunction, particularly causing TSH to increase, and even a slight increased risk for thyroid cancer.

So, what can you do to reduce some of this risk?

In terms of cell phones, when you’re not using your phone, put it down and maybe even a little bit away from you. For example, I’m at my desk writing this and my phone is on a shelf behind me. This helps me focus on my work, too!

Also, don’t sleep with your phone right by your head. In fact, if you can keep it out of the bedroom, even better. This is a great tip for good sleep hygiene, too, as you won’t be tempted to lay in bed and scroll a bunch.

If you need your phone in the room for emergency purposes or as an alarm clock, try to keep it on the other side of the room.

We’ll want to be similarly cautious with devices like laptops, as they also emit signals.

While the name suggests it goes in your lap, I really recommend having something between your body and the computer as protection. There are lots of inexpensive laptop stands that you can rest it on, that might even make it more comfortable, especially if your laptop tends to heat up.

You can also invest in EMF protection products, such as Airestech (use code ANGELABROWN at checkout for a discount). These help regulate the EMF signals from our devices so they are less damaging to our bodies. I keep one on my phone and my computer!

Again, technology can be really helpful in managing our health. Like with anything though, an excess of technology can be bad for us. Being mindful of this and taking small steps to reduce our exposure can make a bit impact on our health.

Angela Brown

Hi, I am Angela Brown. I wasn’t always as health-conscious as I am today. I’ve always had an interest in sports and working out, but living a healthy lifestyle was a battle for me. I didn’t eat the best and burned the candle at both ends. I became interested in the healthcare field in high school when I took my first anatomy class. It was then that I knew I wanted to pursue a career related to the body and how it functioned. After I graduated high school, I earned a degree in Physical Therapy. I worked in outpatient orthopedic and sports clinics for 8 years but at that point, I knew I wanted something more. I became certified in personal training and then went on to get certified in health coaching. My passion for nutrition and lifestyle change began to grow even more when I was struggling with my own health issues. I became certified in Functional Diagnostic Nutrition to get more answers for myself and to help my clients even gain control of their health. I have set out on a mission to help with women overcome hypothyroidism so they can lose weight and get their sexy back.
