Can detoxing help your thyroid? The answer is a quick and easy YES!
The term detox can sometimes be a polarizing term in the wellness world. However, since the thyroid can get overloaded with toxins, just like the liver and gut, detoxing plays an important role in thyroid health.
The thyroid can take a huge hit when it gets bogged down with toxins. And in turn, that can make us feel like crap, make us tired and foggy, and slow our metabolism, leading to unnecessary weight gain.
On the flip side, if you can keep your body free from unwanted toxins, you can be rewarded with more energy, less inflammation, better sleep, better thyroid function, easier weight loss, and improved skin health. Who wouldn’t want all of that!
In this context, we’re talking about a couple of different types of toxins. Of course, there are bad ingredients in things like processed foods, refined sugar, alcohol, and other foods you should avoid if you have hypothyroidism. You could think of cutting these ingredients out as detoxing your diet!
But beyond that, the thyroid can also be impacted by chemicals and other ingredients in our beauty products, cleaning supplies, cookware, and more.
