So many women come to me when they’re feeling the common symptoms of hypothyroidism, like weight gain, fatigue, and constantly feeling cold.
But in my many years of healing my own thyroid and then helping other women on their thyroid health journies, I’ve started to see some patterns with other surprising signs of a slow thyroid.
Let’s talk about what those are.
There are a lot of reasons why women might suffer from depression, and one of those is hypothyroidism. When I was struggling with my slow thyroid, I was actually put on antidepressants to help with this!
Now, my doctor said it was unrelated to my hypothyroidism. But tell me why
so many
of my clients also suffer from this symptom?!
Women with hypothyroidism often struggle with this symptom. Again, this can be brushed off with so many excuses, but for me, I can tell when my thyroid is out of whack because I can feel that brain fog roll back in.
This is another symptom that I regularly see in my clients and in other women living with hypothyroidism, yet the two conditions are rarely linked by conventional doctors.
We know that our thyroid and sex hormones are connected. Yet, when women start having early cycle changes, doctors might simply label it as perimenopause. Sure, that absolutely can happen, but when you’re in your 20s or 30s? Unlikely. Instead, it might be caused by your thyroid.
Yep, high cholesterol. Especially if you’ve had chronic thyroid issues for a long time (like I did), it’s really common to see elevated cholesterol levels, too. When your thyroid is out of whack, your TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) will raise. And when the TSH is chronically high, then it’s just always telling your thyroid to release more hormones. Over time, when TSH is chronically elevated, it will also cause a rise in cholesterol.
The thyroid is a master gland and it impacts so many other systems and parts of your body! That’s why it can feel like the symptoms are so disconnected... But really, they’re not.
If your list of symptoms that are making you feel crappy is really long, I really encourage you to get your thyroid checked with a
full thyroid panel.
If you need help with that,
please reach out to me. I’d love to help.
